Steps
Begin; Mountain
#1 Bring right foot forward, or left foot back, bringing all body weight onto Rt. leg
#2 Bring arms up overhead
#3 Hinge the body at hip, bring arms down while lifting left leg up to hip level, both to parallel to earth
#4 Standing leg strong
#5 Find a dristi or point not moving to gaze at
#6 Engage the bandhas
#7 Breath three deep breaths
Repeat on the other side.
Coming Out;
- Begin to raise the arms and bring lifted leg down to the earth to standing position

Balance

-Improves posture

-Strength & integrity to core, arms and legs
Contraindications:
-Late pregnancy
-Back injury or recent back surgery
-Chronic leg, hip, back or shoulder injury
Modifications/Variations:
-Use a chair or wall to hold while in the pose
-Use blocks for hands to help get into pose, then raise up
-Join hands together into prayer position (Anjali Mudra)
-Interlock fingers with index fingers pointing (Kali Mudra)
-Arms spread sideways or behind like wings
Foundation: One leg on Earth
-Weight evenly distributed on inside and outside of standing foot
Alignment:
-Micro bend in standing leg
-Push thru heal of back foot
-One line ankle, knee, hip and shoulder
-Back toes point down or away
-Lift back leg up & rotate thigh inward
-Tuck navel in and up
-Arms and hands parallel to floor

-Gaze at dristi
